Ny ISO-standard for avfallshåndtering på fiskefartøy

The work on a new ISO standard for waste management on fishing vessels (ISO 5020) began in the autumn of 2020. MARINENVIRON was invited to join a national committee and an international committee that together provide input to the international work. The work is led from the Norwegian Fishermen's Association. The aim is to contribute to the international fishing fleet being given a framework that imposes a clarified responsibility on the industry to reduce the input of macro- and microplastics into the ocean, and that the contribution entails reduced littering of beaches and other coastal areas. The standard will also be able to make a positive contribution when it comes to avoiding ghost fishing.
