The Centre for Oil Spill Protection and Marine Environment has commissioned SALT and the Nordland Research Institute to identify the knowledge status of the discharge of and preventive measures for macroplastics from fisheries and aquaculture.

– We are now conducting a study to gain a total overview of recent knowledge and the effect of various measures in progress. We look forward to receiving the report from SALT and the Nordland Research Institute at the end of November," says project manager Maria Antonsen at the centre.
SALT and the Nordland Research Institute are conducting this assignment on behalf of the centre:
- Gather the most recent scientific and experience-based knowledge about the discharge of macroplastics from fisheries and aquaculture. Describe knowledge status and knowledge gaps.
- Provide an overview and status of projects on preventive measures to reduce the discharge of macroplastics from fisheries and aquaculture.
- Assess and describe the area of application and effect of these measures.
The results will be presented in a report that will describe the knowledge status. The report will also provide an overview of relevant projects and the effect of the ongoing and implemented measures.
The report will be published on the centre’s website and the project overview will be publicly accessible. The results from the study work will be presented in a webinar in November 2021.
The date of the webinar will be announced in September.
